A great and easy way to kick off the New Year is by giving your Instagram feed and social media strategy an audit – an overview of what’s working, what’s not, and give your social a virtual makeover to start the new year off with a bang! Our FDPR Community Manager and content creator, Jordan, is revealing some of her tips to conducting a successful Instagram Audit to revamp your feed and social media strategy for the new year.
First off – what exactly is an Instagram audit?
The goal of an Instagram audit is to attract your dream client through social media by marketing you and your business in the best possible light. Auditing your current Instagram feed and social media strategy is a great way to see what’s working and what’s not when it comes to content, posting frequency and engagement. An audit lets you check your Instagram strategy and see what can be tweaked so you’re putting your best foot forward. First impressions, both in person and online, are important!
Let’s get to it!
Jordan has rounded up some tips, pointers and areas to keep in mind as you go through your Instagram audit and apply it to your current Instagram feed and social media strategy.
Instagram Profile Pic:
Are you using a high quality image? Is it a current head shot that matches the rest of your social platforms? Will your ideal client relate to your photo? Or, if you’re a business, is it more appropriate to use your company logo?
Instagram Bio:
A bio should be clear and concise, communicating the 3 W’s. Are you clearly informing a potential follower who you are, who you work with, and what you achieve? Are you utilizing your link in your bio or is it sitting empty? Is it directing potential customers or clients to your website or store?
Posts:
Do your main feed Instagram posts share content that is relevant, informative or engaging with your ideal audience? Reviewing your insights is a great way to get an inside look at the impact of your content, and to make sure the ideal demographic you want engaging, is. Based on your insights, what posts are getting the most likes, saves and shares? What posts have more success than others – is it a particular colour that performs better, or do your audience love when you share quotes? Is there an overall cohesive colour or visual aesthetic that flows through your feed?
Captions:
Are your post captions short or witty, or long and heartfelt? Again, check your insights to see if a particular style of writing is performing better than others. Or, maybe it’s time to shake things up and try captioning in a new way – sharing business and/or life advice, a story or a funny quip.
Hashtag Strategy:
Are you up to date with how many hashtags Instagram recommends for a post? Gone are the days of a full 30 hashtags – now Instagram officially recommends 3-5 hashtags per post. Make sure you’ve chosen relevant hashtags, with a mix of low, medium and high usage.
With the New Year, it’s the perfect time to shake things up with your Instagram social media strategy and try something new. Give the Instagram audit a go, and see how you do!
