3 Ways To Take National Caesar Day Up a Notch!

Pull out the Clamato juice and all your fixins’ – National Caesar Day is here!

Did you know that the Caesar is Canada’s National cocktail? Back in 1969, The Calgary Inn wanted to celebrate the opening of its new Italian restaurant, Marco’s. The Inn asked restaurant manager Walter Chell to put his cocktail creativity to the test, and invent a new drink in celebration. In keeping with the Italian theme, Chell was inspired by the seafood pasta dish, spaghetti allergy vongole. He mashed clams to produce ‘clam nectar’.

After three months of trial and error Chell came up with the Caesar. The final recipe included vodka, tomato juice, clam nectar, Worcestershire sauce, spices and celery salt. Legend has it that when Chell was serving the drink to customers for a taste test, a British man exclaimed “that’s a good bloody Caesar,” and the name stuck. The Bloody Caesar was born.

It only took a few years for the popularity of the Bloody Caesar to migrate eastwards. Now us Canadians celebrate National Caesar Day on the Thursday before the Victoria Day long weekend. For Zirkova Vodka, National Caesar Day is one of their favourite holidays.

Zirkova Vodka is sharing 3 tips on how to make the perfect Caesar cocktail that hits the spot.

  1. Don’t be stingy on the rimming! Take your guests and yourself to flavour town with an epic rim seasoning of your choice. Mix Celery salt and garlic salt, sprinkle in some chili powder, or even some fancier flavours like onion powder and paprika.
  2. Experiment with different garnishes. Try Extreme Beans, celery, pickles, jalapeño, pizza slices. Add more hot sauce to increase the heat. The possibilities are endless.
  3. When it comes to adding vodka, opt for Zirkova Together. Zirkova Together’s proprietary recipe is specifically designed to elevate the flavours to create superbly balanced cocktails, and in this case, perfect Bloody Caesars.

So this National Caesar Day, treat yourself to a cocktail  – it’s the patriotic thing to do.
