Instagram has rolled out yet another update, and normally, we wouldn’t give this a second thought. However, we were honestly shocked to find out a new setting that was quietly turned on under our noses. We’ll admit, it made us feel kind of uneasy.
Whether you use Instagram for personal, or business, you need to be aware of a tiny, little setting that could have a major impact on your safety. Instagram now can use your location services to pinpoint your EXACT location. It can now automatically tell where you are in the world, down to a precise location. Which, for us, we are not okay with. Having had close brushes with hackers before, if someone were to access our account, we definitely don’t want them to figure out our precise location.
Don’t fear! There’s a super easy, straightforward way to turn off this ‘precise location’ setting on your phone. We’ll walk you through, step-by-step, to get this turned off.
(P.S., there’s screenshots down below for a visual guide as well!)
- Open your iPhone
- Tap on “Settings”
- Scroll down through settings to find the “Instagram” app and tap.
- Tap “Location”
- Depending on your settings, you may already have your location services turned fully off. If not, you’ll see the option “Precise Location” at the bottom of the page. Tap on “Precise Location” to turn it off!
There you have it! Your precise location is off, and you are free to continue posting yummy food pictures or stunning selfies, or conduct an Instagram audit.
